Young Carers
At Ellesmere Park High School we are committed to and fully recognise our responsibilities for supporting young carers, including safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students with caring roles. We believe that all children and young people should have equal access to education, regardless of what is happening at home.
We recognise that family’s lives can change and/ or become increasingly challenging, thus needing additional support. Subsequently we focus time during the school year to identify and support our students who are taking on a caring role. Further information is available in our young carers policy
How do we support young carers and their families?
- Annual audit carried out to all parents/ carers to identify any new young carers, families whose needs have changed or those who are unsure.
- Working with local services such as the Lowry to deliver assemblies and workshops to each year group to raise awareness of young carers and what they may do.
- Signpost to other services such as Gaddum, Early Help or specific group sessions offered by the Lowry Arts Centre (see below for further information)
- Young Carers group/ drop in (Every Wednesday at lunchtime)
- Designated staff to support our Young Carers and families
If you feel your child is a young carer or you would like to discuss how school could support further, please contact Mrs S Calderwood on 0161 507 6420 or alternatively email; safeguarding.ellesmere@consilium-at.com
